Summer

My summer has pretty much escaped me.  The weather here at home has pretty much sucked. I haven’t been able to spend much time outside or swimming.

Pharmacists Mutual has been alright. The same as it was last summer…exactly the same.

I’ve had the opportunity to fill in coaching the swim team a bit.  I enjoy my days there, but it’s probably a good thing it’s not my regular full-time job.  I think some people just need a good, swift kick.

I’m currently taking an online anthropology class. I can’t figure out why cultural anthropology and sociology are required. Almost 2 weeks later and I stillcan’t figure out what the difference is! Speaking of school things…I made the UIndy dean’s list. So hopefully this means my credits will all transfer a lot easier.

DONE!

As of 5:45 Wednesday school ended. I have spent the last couple days attempting to pack and get things organized. I feel like the more I get done the more there is to do. Ugh!

So far 3 final grades have been turned in. B+ in public speaking, a B in physiology, and an A in abnormal psychology. I’m waiting on psychology of personality and religion. The psych final seemed pretty easy. I did A LOT of extra credit for religion, so hopefully I’ll be ok. I gave him one heck of a review!

SUMMER!!!…almost

Summer is so close I can taste it! I’m ready for some down time. I have about a week between when I get home and when I start work. I’m hoping to do nothing for that week.

Tomorrow wraps up class for the semester. I have to watch some presentations in pscyhology of personality. My group presented Wednesday. And we are playing review Jeopardy in phsyio for bonus points on the final. It should be a good last day. Last night in abnormal psych we got extra credit points just for showing up. Dr. Kallman doesn’t take roll, and he canceled  the rest of the tests because he didn’t like the text book. Those of us who showed up for the last class got credit. A surprising number of my professors actually offered extra credit this semester.

Finals officially start Monday, but my first final is Tuesday. I have 3 finals all together. One Tuesday, and two Wednesday. Also Wednesday night I can turn in one last paper for Dr. Kallman and get extra credit. I fully intend to take advantage of that opportunity.

Long Time Coming…

It has been forever since I’ve been able to update. My computer has crashed twice since Christmas, and I have since had to get a brand new one.  Which means I am starting over on all my papers.  I have a lot to do in the next two weeks.  My last final is April 29th. I can’t wait to get out of here! I’m moving back to Algona for the summer, and working at Pharmacists Mutual…again. Not my favorite job, but in these times, a job is a job.

School has been going really well.  At mid-terms I had straight A’s. Although that doesn’t include my religion class. Dr. Corn didn’t grade the mid-term test in time to turn in the grade. Typical for him. I’m doing really well in both of my psych classes, and considering it as a possible minor.  Physio is really challenging, but Molly is great. My speech class meets one more time, and there’s no final speech. Glad to have that out of the way.

I just recently got my official acceptance from HPU. That is one of my top choices for next year. Hawaii Pacific University. I’m really excited! I can’t wait to go check it out!  It’s going to take me an extra year, but I think I deal with an extra year there. I should also be able to use that year to get ready for clinicals, and get my Spanish and psych minors.

SNOW DAY

Yesterday was a snow day! It was so great. I couldn’t believe the university actually canceled class. We got somewhere between 9 and 11 inches of snow. One area southwest of here got 14 inches. The snow accumulated overnight. I stayed home all day, and watched Hope Floats. It was all fun and games until this morning…

I am on my way outside to dig. My car is bumper deep and completely surrounded. None of us have shovels. Who thinks they need one living in an apartment? I say we should have a snow day, then a dig day…

Second Semester

Second semester started January 12th. I don’t really like my new schedule, but night classes aren’t as bad as I thought. Neither of them last the whole time. I was worried about sitting through one class from 5:45-8:35. My abnormal psych professor looks just like Uncle Joe! I have that class Wednesday nights.

I’m taking abnormal psych, psych of personality, physiology, religion, and public speaking. I’m still up in arms about all my credits, especially the Spanish ones. My public speaking teacher is an ex professional ballerina. Talk about strict and blunt. She scares me. I have Molly for physio, I made sure of that. So far classes seem to be going well.

I’m waiting to hear back from St. Francis Hospital. I applied to be a pharmacy tech. I mailed all the paperwork for my license yesterday. I should know in a couple weeks. I’m so excited, it’s like a real job! It turns out all that boring computer stuff I learned at the office may actually come in handy. That and the fact that I’m mildly bilingual gives me a leg up…I hope.

Wrapping it all up

This is my last week of classes for this semester. Finals start next Monday and I am done a week from Thursday. I’m ready for a break. And I’m really excited to go visit Andrew!

Today was another gross anatomy lab. I don’t have any pictures because my gloves were too juicy to get my camera out. We dissected a sheep eye! It was fascinating. Eyes are full of cerebral spinous fluid, the same stuff in your spinal cord and around your brain, so when we gut it open it gushed! The girl from Korea threw up! The barf grossed me out more than eye juice.

Tomorrow is my last test in my computer class. Friday is my last written anatomy test. My Spanish final is another trip to El Meson! I gotta remember how to order a Coke or Mr. Pibb!

Next Semester

I have officially registered for next semester’s classes. I didn’t get into the classes I wanted, or need. There were so discrepancies over my lack of health records, incomplete records, and the fact the receptionist at the health office is entirely incompetent. Most of what I was told would transfer hasn’t. I’m even further behind than I thought I would be at this point. My projected graduation date is 2013, which is later than this years freshman. Also, without credit from ILCC and Butler Spanish classes a minor is unattainable. I went to Butler, got a copy of my final transcript, and took it to my adviser. I have yet to hear back from her. All of this is just ridiculous. I have wasted another yet year. I’m looking into other options. I don’t think I can stay here until 2013, I’ll go crazy.

We just took our anatomy test over all 206 and the muscles. I got an 81%. I wanted to do much better, but it was a lot of material. The class average was only 72%, so I did alright. Today was lab and we’re starting the brain and spinal chord. This unit will be easier, since I know some from developmental psych. I’ll try to add some pictures, but I’m not sure I can figure it out.

I also had a test in computers. It was over PowerPoint, I kid you not. We spent over a month learning how to create and edit a PowerPoint.

I got 100% on that test. A small victory during a hectic week.

Quiero agua, por favor

Yesterday our Spanish class consisted of the entire class, about 18, including Prof. Iman, eating at El Meson.  We had to order in Spanish, and speak only Spanish to our classmates. It was by far the most enjoyable test I have taken thus far. The only problem was I really wanted Mr. Pibb, but didn’t know to say it in Spanish, so I ordered water. I could have used the caffeine.

Today was the muscle lab in anatomy. There were no real muscles involved, I was hoping for a cat again.  There is a small model, dubbed “Muscle Man”, about a foot and a half tall that has all the muscles from head to toe.  He has a lot of removable pieces so you can see layers of muscles. After checking him out everything made a lot more sense. I think I need a muscle man and skeleton.

I also got to see my math test from Thursday. I got a 90% on that one. This math class involves a ton of homework and a few projects. But every assignment seems to have a purpose, and it almost relates to the real world…sometimes.

Tomorrow is my advising and class registration. I have more than enough credits in every subject but science. The science classes have a certain succession, so I really have nothing to take next semester. I guess that’s assuming all my credits transferred. If I took a whole year of Jane Austen English with that hippie woman from Brown County for nothing my head might explode!

This week so far

Tuesday was the lab covering both axial and appendicular skeleton. It’s a lot of bones. On top of just knowing the bones we need to know every bump, groove, and notch(note: those are not the anatomical terms). There was a ton of vertebrae just hanging out in a box. There must have been like 6 people’s spines in there! I have spent the last three nights trying to draw pictures of bones and labeling them. I should be taking an art class. My humerus looks like something on the Flintstones! I’m definitely going to open lab tomorrow morning.

Today I had a math test, which I think went well. It was all about standard deviation and the bell curve. I learned about it in pre-calc a little.  We didn’t even have to know formulas, he just says its the 68-95-99.7 rule, you don’t need to know why. It’s a math class that finally makes sense!

Tomorrow’s computer class is canceled. Finally a day off! One more powerpoint and I think my head will explode! How many times can a person insert clip art?
